Minyo Crusaders was founded in 2011 in Fussa, a culturally diverse city on the western edge of Tokyo. Their mission is to rescue traditional Japanese folk music from obscurity and return it to its working-class roots as “music for the people”. They combine traditional Japanese with cumbia, afro-beat, reggae and big band sounds. Their new “From Japan With Love” is this week’s featured album on Around the World this Sunday the 12th at 10pm.

Officina Zoè are one of the great pillars of Salento’s pizzica tradition. They have been performing since 1993 and have become a driving force behind the revival of Salento’s traditional music. Their first studio album in more than ten years – “Mari E Marenne” (The Sea and Other Stories) – is featured this week on Around the World with Davy Sims at 10pm this Sunday the 5th.
New music also playing will be as far apart as Japan to Brazil, Taiwan to Egypt, and Punjab to Serbia.
