It's important to be aware of the signs and symptoms of heat stress and heat exhaustion in children, especially during the current heatwave. ☀️

Symptoms of heat stress:

• Children may seem out of character or show signs of discomfort and irritability (including those listed below for heat exhaustion).
• These signs will worsen with physical activity.
• For children and young people who use nappies, dark urine or dry nappies may indicate dehydration and the need for more fluids.

Symptoms of heat exhaustion may include:

• tiredness
• dizziness
• headache
• nausea
• vomiting
• excessive sweating and pale, clammy skin

If you are concerned about symptoms, or they are worsening, seek medical advice by contacting NHS 111.

Heat exhaustion can lead to heatstroke and is a medical emergency. 🚑

☀️KNOW THE SIGNS OF HEAT STROKE! ☀️

In a heatwave, it’s worth knowing the signs of heat exhaustion and heatstroke and what to do if someone becomes unwell.

Help reduce the risk by staying hydrated, avoiding the sun between 11am and 3pm, wearing loose, light-coloured clothing, and taking it easy in the heat.

Check in on anyone who may be more vulnerable, including babies, young children, older people and those with long-term health conditions.

We are over the moon to welcome another incredible new trainer to our team, Kristin Finn! 🤩🥳

Kristin is a mum of two very lively and energetic boys, aged 10 and 5. ⚡️❤️

Since having children, Kristin and her family have experienced numerous trips to A&E and the minor injuries units, with many more bumps, scrapes, and splinters to deal with along the way! 🩹🤕

Kristin’s background is in teaching and safety education. She spent over 15 years as a university lecturer with a specialism and passion for live events and crowd safety. She is now an approved workplace safety training provider for the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, as well as a First Aid trainer and assessor. 👥🚑

Kristin has always been passionate about delivering engaging and relatable training that helps to create those lightbulb moments for learners so that they know what to do in an emergency or worsening situation. 💡

Kristin is dedicated to empowering other parents, grandparents, carers and children to feel confident and calm under pressure, whilst gaining the valuable first aid skills that enable them to provide help and support when needed. 🥰

Kristin did an amazing job of delivering her first Baby & Child First Aid course on Saturday to a wonderful group of people. We are so proud of her and so happy she is part of our team. 👏🏻

Please join us in giving Kristin a huge warm welcome! 💚
