Rat Alert
03/07/2026
This week, we carried out non-dig repairs at a commercial property in Downpatrick after a recent drain survey.
The main issues were poorly capped redundant pipework and damaged benching within a manhole, both of which were providing rats with an opportunity to enter the building.
We repaired the damaged benching to restore the manhole to prevent any further problems.
To seal off the redundant pipework, we installed a rat-proof liner through a Y-junction. This allows the live section of pipework to continue functioning as normal while permanently blocking rats from accessing the redundant connection β all without any excavation. πͺπ

During a recent drain survey in Saintfield, we uncovered a defective connection and gully. Rats had gnawed through a plastic reducer where the small-bore pipework connects to the 4-inch pipework, creating a route into the property from the drainage system.
A rat burrow was also located nearby, created by rats burrowing out from beneath the property.
The team carried out rat-proof repairs to the damaged section, sealing off the entry point into the property and closing the door on any further unwanted visitors.

βββββ Another 5-Star Review
We are delighted to receive another 5-star review from a valued customer.
Across Northern Ireland, one of the most common causes of recurring rat infestations in properties is a defective drainage system. Rats are excellent climbers and swimmers, often exploiting damaged drains and uncapped redundant pipework to gain access to properties unnoticed.
During our survey of this property, we identified an uncapped redundant section of drainage that had been left in place following the relocation of a toilet. This created a direct access route from the drainage system into the property, allowing rats to enter undetected.
Thankfully, the issue was relatively minor and was resolved with a straightforward repair, effectively sealing the entry point and preventing any further unwanted visitors.

We were recently called to a property experiencing ongoing rat activity. Following a detailed survey of the drainage system, we identified an uncapped section of drainage left beneath a porch extension β effectively providing rats with a hidden access route directly into the property.
The team exposed the uncapped pipework and securely capped the redundant section of drainage to eliminate the entry point. The ground was then fully reinstated.
Rat issues often originate from drainage systems, which is why a thorough survey is crucial for a long-term solution. π

π§π§ Another successful repair completed! π§π§
We recently carried out repairs to a fractured pipe causing recurring blockages beneath a busy local bar. Instead of traditional excavation methods, we used a non-dig lining solution to quickly and efficiently resolve the issue.

Trenchless technology allowed us to restore the pipe from an external manhole, saving time, reducing mess, and keeping the business running smoothly throughout the entire process.

Sure, whoever is going to see it. π
About 80 per cent of the defects we encounter that allow rats to leave pipework and enter a property are due to uncapped, redundant pipework, usually left under extensions during the construction phase. In some instances, this issue arises from the standard of the installation of the drainage system, and today was one of those cases. π§

βοΈ How do you seal redundant pipework buried under a high-end kitchen floor with underfloor heating without lifting a single tile? π οΈ
This property in Belfast has undergone multiple changes and extensions over the last 100 years, including alterations to the drainage system. Unfortunately, this left some uncapped, redundant pipework beneath an extension, allowing rats to enter the property from the drainage system.
We took this as an opportunity to demonstrate what we bring to the table with our non-dig, rat-proof solutions. The team took advantage of two manholes, pulled in a rat-proof liner around multiple bends from a manhole 16m downstream, and installed the liner directly beneath the extension to seal off the redundant pipework.
No costs of excavation, no dust, no broken tiles, and no more rats. Modern solutions for a century-old home.π
Rats are opportunists, and if any part of a drainage system allows them to leave the pipework, you can be sure they will take advantage of the opportunity to enter a property, especially these types of defects adjacent to the foundations.
Out of the pipework, into the wall cavity and up to the loft space, claiming squatter's rights. π

We were working alongside North West Pest Control on this one. A block of flats in Belfast with a recurring rat issue. A combination of a poorly capped redundant inlet in a gully with a missing insert, and missing bricks from an inspection chamber wall allowed rats to leave the pipework and make a presence where they weren't welcome. π

Absolutely superb service from Stephen throughout, ably assisted by Frank. From my first email to Stephen, he called me immediately and took time and great care to establish the issues, then visited within a couple of days to conduct the drainage survey. I was very impressed by Stephen's expertise when doing the survey, talking me through everything he was doing, using some amazing equipment, and in the end producing a highly impressive and very professional report.
He suggested the best way forward and kept in touch with me regularly until both he and Frank arrived to excavate the bathroom and deal with the problem drains. Once again I was very impressed by the skill and hard work both Gents put in until the work was completed, even coming back to help finish off the bathroom once the new vinyl had been laid.
It was an absolute pleasure dealing with Stephen and Frank, both very friendly and hard working Gentlemen, honest and reliable, always on time, and they did a great job. Highly recommended.
