We were called after reports of a collision between the driver of an HGV and a pedestrian. The pedestrian – a man in his 60s – was believed to have been walking towards his car, which had broken down. Sadly, he died at the scene. His next of kin has been informed.

A 55-year-old man from Cornwall has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Investigations are under way and we're asking anyone with dashcam footage of the collision or who saw anything to get in touch.

If you can help please contact us via the link in comments quoting incident number 39 of 22 May or reference 23/21929/26.

Water Safety Advice 01/05/2026

With the weather hopefully improving, we wanted to share some safety advice.

It can be tempting to cool off by swimming in open water, but it comes with many dangers, which is why we're encouraging parents to talk to their children and discourage them from doing so unless it is a designated and supervised swimming area.

Even on warm days, open water can be extremely cold, causing cold water shock which can quickly lead to drowning.

There are also hidden dangers beneath the surface including sudden drops, poor visibility and discarded objects that can trap or injure swimmers.

One conversation now could save a life.

Remember - if you see a child or anyone else in difficulty in the water, please call 999 immediately.
