**DUE TO FACTORS OUTSIDE OF OUR CONTROL, THIS WORK HAS BEEN POSTPONED FOR NOW AND IS PROJECTED TO TAKE PLACE NOW ON THE EVENING OF MONDAY THE 19TH**
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL CUSTOMERS SERVED BY OUR CAIRN MON EARN / DURRIS MAST:
Last week we suffered a couple of faults impacting customers whose connection goes via our mast at Cairn Mon Earn near Durris.
In order to get everyone back online as quickly as possible we had to bypass our battery backup system at this site as this was the root cause of the issue.
We have since then purchased upgraded battery backup hardware and had it air freighted to us from the USA in order to minimize the time that this critical site was on reduced redundancy
Those parts have now arrived and we are keen to get them fitted as quick as possible to avoid any potential unplanned outages.
To do this we intent to go to the site this evening at around 9pm to install the new battery hardware and have the site fully protected against power cuts.
This site also has an automatic starting diesel generator however the batteries are critical for two reasons:
To keep everything running whilst the generator starts and reached operating speeds
To keep things online in the event the generator either does not start OR runs out of fuel
For this reason we have taken the decision to install the battery hardware tonight as the next available slot for us would be monday evening and we want to avoid the possibility of any unplanned outages over the weekend.
We do appreciate that this may cause some inconvenience as the outage will happen at short notice however we believe the the potential for an unexpected outage with no notice, that could last for many hours in a worst case scenario, is worse and for that reason we have decided to press on with the work tonight.
Downtime for most customers is expect to be in the region of 15-30 minutes
Thank you all for your understanding and patience during these essential works

We are aware of a major incident affecting many customers broadband access this morning.
At around 00:15 a fibre cable carrying several of our connections south of Aberdeen was damaged in a suspected cable theft incident.
Engineers have been working on the incident since around 1AM and now have identified the fault and laid a new cable.
However for safety reasons an emergency lane closure of the A92 / A956 Junction which is currently being put into place. As soon as this lane closure is in place engineers will begin splicing the new cable into the network and restore service.
As soon as we have further updates be will send this out to all customers

Shortly before 11pm we restored service to the remaining properties offline in the Kinmuck area.
If you live in/around Kinmuck and are still offline, please contact us at [email protected] so that we can arrange an engineer visit to get you back online

Well, Last night was wild!
We are currently in the process of assessing damage and trying to restore service to as many areas as we can as quickly as possible.
At this stage we'll be unable to provide realistic ETAs for service restoration but we will keep everyone up to date as often as we can via Email and SMS messages
Thank you for your patience during these challenging times

Storm Malik is sweeping across the region this morning and we are continuing to monitor the impact on the network.
A number of small relay sites are currently offline, but these typically only serve a couple of customers in close proximity to the site, so in the vast majority of cases all customers will be affected by lack of power also.
Our key sites (with one exception below) are all either online or being kept online by our battery backup systems. Our fibre optic site at Potarch for example has been running on battery power since 6:40 this morning.
the one exception to this is Thainstone, we cannot yet determine if this is power related of a damaged overhead fibre line - an engineer is on route there this morning to confirm. This will be impacting users in and around Inverurie, Blackburn/Kinellar, Tertowie and Clinterty
