They simply cannot build structures like this anymore. Construction started in 1163 and took approximately 200 years for completion. The detail in the stonework is absolute perfection. And just listen to the Grand Organ fill the room with sound.

Caprock Canyon State Park

So we took a quick trip to Hot Springs National Park and found out this isn't your typical National Park. The city of Hot Springs is surrounded by the National Park and some of the city is part of HSNP. In places you feel you are in the wilderness but in actuality you are always near town. We stayed in the HSNP Gulpha Gorge Campground, nice and clean and if you get a spot that backs up to the creek you can have a peaceful flowing creek to put you to sleep.(who needs a white noise machine) Check into the history of bathhouse row, and the gangster/mafia ties to the area....very interesting. There are also fountains around town with the spring water flowing, some are hot, some are cool, a lot of people bottle it for drinking water. Cool place and we will be back to explore some more. We arrived just after the leaves had fallen from the trees so a few weeks earlier probably would have been spectacular. Looks like they do it up for Christmas so that is an idea also. Lots of stuff to do for the whole family.

First time I have ever seen a herd of goats with bells on their necks being led down a hill by a legit shepard. As we hiked up Mt Zues you could hear the goat bells at different times. Then a little further up.......donkeys wandering on the trail. Inland Naxos is like going back in time, lots of hard working people doing things the way they have been done for decades......

If you see a fork in the trail.......take it! That sometimes works in life too.

This was from a trip to Caprock Canyons State Park. This is basically the lower half of Palo Dura Canyon and not quite as PDSP, but still has some great hiking and awesome views. It is also home to the official Texas State bison herd which did not dissapoint.

December 2024 Trip to Big Bend National Park. I have lived in Texas all of my life, why did I just learn about this place? I f you have never seen the Chihauhaun Deserts rugged beauty, you owe it to yourself to make the short drive to Terlingua. You have desert, mountains, desert, canyons, river and more. This is a huge National Park that is not nearly as crowded as some of the others.

2024 Trip to Palo Dura Canyon State Park. This is another place that any Texan needs to visit at least once. Lots of great hiking and views that you wouldn't believe are in west Texas.
