16th.July.2025 🌋 woke up to another eruption this morning and it’s actually the ninth eruption in this volcanic system since 2023… kind of hard to wrap my head around. it’s also the twelfth we’ve had here on the Reykjanes Peninsula since 2021. nature just keeps reminding us who’s really in charge.

every time it happens, it feels just as surreal. the ground cracks open and lava lights up the sky.

the eruption is close to Grindavík again, and that whole area has been evacuated and is now closed for safety. gas pollution has been detected in the region too, so if you’re staying around there, it’s important to close windows and follow updates from authorities.

but if you’re visiting Iceland, please don’t panic! 💛 everything else is running completely normal. the airport is open, roads are open, tours and services are operating as usual. this is a local event, and Iceland is still very safe to travel in, as long as you stay informed and respectful of closures.

I think that’s one of the most beautiful things about living here… how quickly the landscape can shift, and how everyone just adapts. one day you’re swimming in a hot spring, the next you’re watching lava flow.

grateful for the scientists and emergency crews keeping everyone safe and for official info + updates check out:

And maybe pick a window seat if you’re flying to Iceland.

Most likely this will be a short one though. These eruptions are always getting shorter and shorter, with some of them only lasting about 2 days or so. So just follow the updates.

Do you have any questions?
