🌍 WATER-RES: Major climate adaptation initiative for 1.5 million people in Syria

The Green Climate Fund (GCF) has approved its first-ever investment in Syria through WATER-RES, a landmark initiative that will help communities in Eastern Ghouta (Rural Damascus Governorate) adapt to increasing water scarcity and climate pressures.

Acted is grateful to the GCF for its trust and commitment to supporting climate action in water-stressed contexts. Developed in close partnership with the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic, through the Ministry of Local Administration and Environment(وزارة الإدارة المحلية والبيئة) , this initiative reflects a shared ambition: expanding access to climate finance and delivering practical adaptation solutions where they are needed most.

Over the next five years, WATER-RES will:

💧 Strengthen water governance, climate data systems and local adaptation capacities.
🚰 Rehabilitate water infrastructure to improve water services and efficiency.
🌱 Support climate-smart agriculture and ecosystem restoration to help farmers cope with a changing climate.

By connecting water, communities and institutions, WATER-RES will help lay the foundations for a more resilient and water-secure future.
