From 'Learning for' to 'Learning as' : Inner Development in Higher Education 🎓

Sometimes the most meaningful changes in education begin with something small. A student who feels truly heard. A moment of reflection that changes how someone sees themselves. A classroom where learning is not only about knowledge, but also about courage, empathy and growth.

That was very much the feeling we carried with us in Trondheim, Norway, where the partnership came together for its second project meeting hosted by the NTNU - Norges teknisk-naturvitenskapelige universitet. ALIGN, which stands for 'Embedding Inner and Student-centered Exploration and Development in Higher Education' is funded by Erasmus+ KA220 in Higher Education and brings together partners across Europe to explore how inner development can take a real place in university life through educator training, digital tools and classroom practice.

What makes this work so meaningful is that it did not begin only as a project. In many ways, it began with a shared conversation. The work of the University Coalition for Student Inner Development and the wider movement around the Inner Development Goals (IDGs), helped bring many of us together around a common belief: that higher education should not only prepare students academically, but also support them as human beings.

With partners from Sweden (Lund University), Germany (Hochschule Darmstadt), the Netherlands (University of Amsterdam and Nyenrode Business Universiteit), Greece (Alba Graduate Business School), Norway (NTNU - Norges teknisk-naturvitenskapelige universitet) and Spain (Universitat Ramon Llull– Esade), we are building learning environments that nurture both competence and consciousness.

Growing Ideas in Absdorf! 🇦🇹

Great energy, great exchanges and great progress at the Transnational Partners Meeting in Absdorf, Austria, on 18-19 March 2025. Together with our partners, we focused on piloting, testing and evaluating the project’s training materials and methodologies, while also exploring how to maximise and share the its results.

As the supports innovation in market gardening, this meeting was a fantastic opportunity to strengthen collaboration and keep building practical tools for the sector.

A big thank you to Grand Farm and all partners for the fruitful discussions and continued commitment to the project.
