OZONE CHABRE OPEN 2026

The 19th edition of the Ozone Chabre Open proved a success once again, with pilots flying six out of seven days in Laragne and the surrounding region. After weeks of hot, sunny weather, the competition kicked off with a 44km practice task followed by a classic 78km run from Chabre to Chorge, which saw 68 pilots in goal. Changing weather and fast-building storm clouds required adaptable task setting later in the week, leading to a 51km task stopped late in the day, a 25km sprint from Saint Jean Montclar, and a 37km run to goal at the Laragne campsite.

David Gridley took the overall victory to lead a week that saw consistent performances from Ozone pilots across the field, with Mark Graham securing second place overall and winning the Sports Class flying the Ozone Delta 3. Completing the overall top three was Nick Giguere, who flew his Ozone Lyght to third place and finished second in the X-Class. In the Sports Class, Graham shared the podium with Gerard van Rijn and Roger Van Rietschote, both flying the Delta 4. Chelsea Mckenzie claimed the top spot in the Women’s Class flying the Ozone Lyght, while Anna Hadders took third, also on a Lyght. The Rookies Class saw Gabriel Pierron take first place on an Ozone Photon, followed by Jeremy Clerc on a Swift 6. In the Recreation Class, Marijn van Rijsewijk and Paul Icard flew their Swift 6 and Swift 5 to second and third respectively. The Fun Class podium was rounded out by Peter van Leer on a Geo 6 and Jan Dillingh on a Buzz Z6.

Off the hill, the event featured a fascinating talk from Ozone’s Cameron Dawes on harnesses, and a well-attended Q&A session with Russ Ogden, alongside plenty of fun at the evening parties and musical soirées. The winners were awarded beautifully presented local fossil trophies, and one lucky pilot took home an Ozone glider in the closing raffle.

SRS Ozone Edition, Le Grand Bornand, France

After two thrilling tasks at the SRS Ozone Edition in Le Grand Bornand, Baptiste Lambert dominated the opening days across the French Alps,
taking back-to-back task victories under wildly shifting conditions.

The 75.7 km opening task started under morning clouds before opening up into classic alpine flying with blue skies, strong climbs, and fast-paced racing, where
Lambert claimed his first win following a tight battle for the lead. By the end of the day, 119 pilots had crossed the finish line,
demonstrating just how spectacular the inaugural race truly was. Stage two proved far trickier: the 91.7 km route began under stable air that
forced pilots to fly low and rely on patience, before presenting a brutal return leg plagued by strong northern headwinds.

It was here that Baptiste put on a tactical masterclass on his Delta 5. Facing those severe headwinds near Roc de Bœuf, he split from the pack to take a sheltered route on the right side of the mountain.
The move paid off dramatically: he found stronger thermals, maintained a high average speed of 30.77 km/h, and crossed the finish line a massive 13 minutes and 42 seconds ahead of the runner-up.
His commanding performance secured a maximum lead score of 137.6 points for the day, leaving him firmly at the top of the overall.

In the women’s category, Mette Krum is leading the race by also winning the first two tasks.

French pilots dominate the 2026 Pyrenees Open Hike & Fly.

From 4 to 7 June, the Pyrenees Open Hike & Fly wrapped up its third edition, defined by elite athletic performances and a technical 197 km course starting and finishing in Panticosa. The event kicked off with a prologue task offering time bonuses, challenging pilots with a final waypoint hidden right in the centre of the Pyrenees Labyrinth.

Throughout the race, competitors tackled strategic waypoints including Pelopín, Ezkaurre, Pico Las Blancas, Oturia and Monte Perdido, backed at every step by their support crews.

In the overall standings, France dominated the podium. Téo Bouvard claimed victory in 12 hours after completing 10.6 km on foot and 186.40 km in flight with his Zeolite GT. Joining him on the podium were fellow Frenchmen Erwan Valais, also flying a Zeolite GT, and Benjamin Gaudry. In the women’s category, Francesca Mugianesi took the win with her Zeolite 2 and Sublite (finishing 18th overall), while on the national stage, Andreu Moreno secured second place in the Spanish Championship at the controls of his Zeolite 2 GT.

This edition confirmed the sheer complexity of hike & fly, where strategy, reading the weather and terrain knowledge prove just as decisive as physical endurance.

Reflecting on the challenges of this edition, race director David Polo noted: “This third edition of the Pyrenees Open threw some truly harsh, pure Pyrenean weather conditions at us—something we hadn’t experienced until now. This allowed us to set a much more ambitious task than in previous years, featuring an incredibly high level of competition and some of the world’s top international pilots.”
