Sakiasi R Ditoka MP

A very warm and productive bilateral meeting yesterday afternoon in Port Moresby with my Melanesian brother, the Honourable Justin Tkatchenko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Papua New Guinea.

Our discussions reaffirmed the deep historical, cultural and Christian ties that have long connected Fiji and Papua New Guinea, and the importance of continuing to strengthen that partnership in an increasingly complex global environment.

We discussed opportunities to deepen cooperation across a number of areas of mutual interest, including regional integration, economic cooperation, maritime and ocean-related priorities, regional security, connectivity, and strengthening Melanesian cooperation through the MSG and the broader Pacific architecture.

I also conveyed Fiji’s sincere appreciation to Prime Minister James Marape, Minister Tkatchenko, and the Government and people of Papua New Guinea for the excellent hospitality extended to the Prime Minister of Fiji and our delegation during the Melanesian Ocean Summit.

The Summit itself reflects the growing importance of Melanesian leadership and regional solidarity as we work together to build a peaceful, resilient and prosperous Blue Pacific Continent for future generations.

Trade Minister, the Hon Sakiasi Ditoka and I discussed how we can work together to build that prosperity for each other, and for the benefit of our entire Pacific Family.
