Human Rights Commission Fiji
07/06/2026
Human rights apply to everyone, including people in detention.
What does that look like in practice?
The Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission conducted a workshop with the Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) last week on the Commission’s role in monitoring places of detention and the standards that guide this work.
Discussions centered on dignity, fairness, and the Nelson Mandela Rules are an important part of how we support respectful, rights-based treatment.
This session is part of the Commission’s preparation for resuming inspections of correctional facilities across the country.
FHRADC will be holding similar sessions in other divisions across the country.
The Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission acknowledges that four police officers have been charged in relation to an alleged assault case referred to the Police by the Commission on behalf of the victim.
