Vinaka Vakalevu!
It is with deep disappointment and heartfelt concern that I address the recent incident involving a group of school students and their supervising staff during their visit at our resort in Rakiraki.
As a proud businesswoman and the owner of this resort, I have worked tirelessly for many years to build a safe, welcoming, and well-managed space for all our guests. It saddens me to see my integrity and the reputation of my business attacked publicly in a manner that is not only unfair but also deeply misleading.
Let me clarify a few important facts:
1. Our resort has clear house policies, including a standard “no outside food or drinks” rule. These policies are communicated transparently at check-in and were signed and acknowledged by the group leader. In the video circulating online, I am seen holding and referring to this signed document—yet the supervising teacher is visibly arguing and refusing to respect the agreed terms.Apart from breaking No Outside Food and Drinks allowed in the Resort, she had booked only 4 rooms to accommodate 26 people which was unacceptable and was asked to book more rooms to which she aggressively stated "we will manage in 4 rooms" which we did not accept. The director was continuously asking the students to taunt me.
2. What is not being shown is the level of provocation and breach of respect that unfolded. I was alone, confronted by a large group of students—some of whom were recording me without consent, taunting and undermining me while clearly violating house rules. This felt more like bullying than a misunderstanding.
3. Asserting a boundary is not abuse. Enforcing rules that guests have agreed to follow does not equate to physical or verbal abuse. I strongly deny the claims of physical aggression. These allegations are deeply hurtful and untrue. If there is a formal investigation, I welcome it fully and will cooperate transparently.
4. The fact that videos were taken without my permission and then circulated on social media—tagged and credited to individuals— is not only unethical but potentially illegal. Recording someone without consent, especially with the intent to shame them online, is a serious violation of privacy.
5. It is especially distressing to witness so many in the public quickly take sides using words like “greedy” and “unworthy,” based solely on one-sided and emotional storytelling. The damage done to my name and my property through this viral backlash is immense—and undeserved.
As an educator, one’s role is to guide students to become law-abiding, respectful, and accountable adults. It is therefore deeply shocking to see a teacher not only dismiss house rules but openly defend the misconduct. The Director of the school was saying she is the sister of Aiyaz Saiyad Khaiyum which was irrelevant to me as all guests are treated with the same respect if they show respect. This sets a troubling precedent that policies can be broken without consequence if one shouts loud enough or plays the victim well.
This incident has left me shaken, not just because of the false narrative being spread, but because of what it reflects about the direction we are heading as a society—where accountability is lost, and public shaming becomes the first resort.
To our loyal guests and supporters: Thank you for standing with us. We remain committed to providing a professional, peaceful, and policy-abiding experience for every guest who respects the space we work so hard to maintain.
