We spend so much time focusing on the things of this world, and sometimes we hardly give any space to God in our lives. Work, money, responsibilities, entertainment — all these things take most of our time and energy.

I knock off from work at 10:30pm. When I get home, I usually rest. But one night, while resting, I decided to open my Bible. The scripture says, But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33.

That verse really spoke to me. It reminded me that before anything else, before work, before success, before daily struggles, God must come first.
At work, we laugh and share jokes. Sometimes the jokes go in the wrong direction, and small misunderstandings turn into hurt feelings or even hatred. The Bible also says let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying.Ephesians 4:29

This is how God tests our boldness and self-control. When we try to focus on our work and do what is right, distractions come from different corners. Temptations come through conversations, anger, pride, and negative talk. The enemy tries to drag our minds away from what is good and productive.

The Bible reminds us Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8
We must learn to look into ourselves and discipline our minds. We need to tell our minds not to entertain wrong thoughts, not to join in harmful conversations, and not to let distractions control us. God gives us strength to overcome these things if we choose to stay close to Him.

Every day is a choice to follow the world or to follow God. Even after a long day at work, giving just a few minutes to read His Word can change our hearts and direction.
