Hope_Project

The HoPE team went further north for the Finnish midsummer celebrations. We spent some days near the sea in Vaasa, as well as next to one of the sawmills that produced prefabricated Finnish housing in the 1940's and 1950's.

The Kronvik sawmill participated in the war-reparations to the USSR, as well as producing houses for the national and international market. For instance, around 100 houses for the trade with Colombia in 1955 were made here. The sawmill was closed in the early 1980's after a devastating fire destroyed important parts of the production line.

For those who read swedish, there is a written history of the sawmill from 2005!

The HoPE- team wishes you all Glada vappen - Hauskaa Vappua! On the 30.4, university communities and people in general celebrate the arrival of spring in Finland. ( Despite chilly temperatures and even occationally snowfall...) the team got to experience the celebrations on Vårdberget in Turku where the ÅAU male choir Brahe Djäknar and about 5000 people welcomed spring together.
