Today, May 4th marks one year since the Naath Fish Company ceased operation. On this day in 2024, a convoy was ambushed by Anuak militia between Gambella city and Abol town. The manager of the Naath Fish Company, Yien Wil Mayuak Nyoch was in that convoy while carrying 200 fish (100 fresh fish of Africa arowana and 100 dry fish of African arowana and African catfish).

In that incident, our manager narrowly escaped death. He worked at the university from Monday to Friday and visited the fishing camp on Friday afternoon to bring fish on Sunday and resumed his work at the university on Monday. This was his routine until that incident happened on May 4th.

Arriving in Gambella city after the ambush, our manager was so disappointed. With anger that could be read from his face, he closed all the stores, shops for both fresh fish and dry fish in Gambella city immediately and never returned to the fishing camp again until today.

With the security maintained now in Gambella characterized by absence of road ambush, the Naath Fish Company will resume operation in June this year.

We therefore hope that this is a good news for our customers in Gambella, Addis Ababa as well as in diaspora.
