Yesterday, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced a drastic cut to USAID programs, slashing over 80% of foreign aid funding.
This decision is poised to affect critical global development efforts, including health, education, and climate initiatives. Many communities depending on this aid for basic services now face uncertainty.

👉 Marco Rubio said on his X page:

"After a 6-week review, we are officially canceling 83% of the programs at USAID. The 5200 contracts that are now canceled spent tens of billions of dollars in ways that did not serve, and in some cases even harmed, the core national interests of the United States. In consultation with Congress, we intend for the remaining 17% of programs to now be administered more effectively under the State Department."

For Ethiopia, these cuts could disrupt essential sectors such as humanitarian aid, healthcare, and economic development.
