Ethiopia, Italy Sign €70 Million Loan Agreement to Advance Economic Reforms

Ethiopia and Italy have signed a €70 million loan agreement to support the implementation of Ethiopia's Homegrown Economic Reform agenda and key development projects.

The agreement was signed by Ethiopia's Minister of Finance, Ahmed Shide, and Italy's Ambassador to Ethiopia, Sem Fabrizi.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Finance Minister Ahmed Shide said the agreement reflects the strong partnership between Ethiopia and Italy and further strengthens the longstanding historical ties between the two countries. He noted that the loan agreement forms part of the broader cooperation frameworks previously reached between the two nations.

The minister explained that the financial support will help advance Ethiopia's ongoing national economic reform program and contribute to the country's development goals.

He stated that Ethiopia has successfully completed the second phase of its comprehensive macroeconomic reform program and added that the World Bank has approved budget support for the implementation of the third phase of the reforms.

Ahmed Shide also expressed appreciation to the Italian government for its financial support and continued partnership in Ethiopia's development efforts and economic reform agenda, according to ENA

Mayor Extends Gratitude for Successful Entoto–Kebena Project Completion

Mayor Adanech Abiebie has expressed her heartfelt appreciation to everyone who contributed to the successful completion of the Entoto–Kebena River and Riverside Development Project.

In a message shared on her social media pages, the Mayor extended her deep respect and gratitude to the leaders and staff of infrastructure institutions, contractors, consultants, professionals, daily laborers, and local residents whose collective efforts brought the landmark project to completion, creating a lasting legacy for future generations.

She emphasized that Addis Ababa has continued to deliver transformative development projects using its own budget rather than loans or foreign aid. According to the Mayor, the successful completion of the project was made possible through the combined efforts of the city's taxpayers, revenue collection institutions, and financial institutions.

On behalf of the residents of Addis Ababa, the city administration, and herself, she conveyed sincere thanks to everyone who played a role in making the project a reality.

Congratulating the people of Addis Ababa, Mayor Adanech said the beautifully developed Kebena River and Riverside Project was built primarily for the city's residents. She encouraged the public to visit the site, enjoy its recreational facilities, and benefit from the clean, healthy, and attractive environment it provides.

The Mayor also called on residents to take collective responsibility for preserving and protecting the development, urging them to use the facilities responsibly and ensure that the project is sustainably maintained for the benefit of future generations.

Ethiopia Working to Further Strengthen People-to-People Ties with China: Adam Farah

Deputy Prime Minister, Head of the Democracy System Building Coordination Center, and Vice President of the Prosperity Party, Adam Farah, has reaffirmed Ethiopia's commitment to further strengthening both government-to-government and people-to-people relations with China.

Adam Farah made the remarks today after holding talks at his office with Chen Hai, China's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ethiopia.

During the meeting, Ambassador Chen Hai delivered a congratulatory message from the Communist Party of China (CPC) on the successful conclusion of Ethiopia's 7th General Election and the victory of the Prosperity Party.
In its message, the CPC expressed confidence that, under the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD), Ethiopia will continue to make progress in promoting lasting peace and stability, strengthening national unity, and achieving comprehensive prosperity.

The message noted that the election results reflect the Ethiopian people's confidence in the Prosperity Party and expressed optimism that the party will continue to unite and lead the nation toward its vision of transforming Ethiopia into a model country.

The Communist Party of China also reaffirmed its commitment to implementing previously agreed areas of cooperation and to building an enduring partnership that contributes to the development and prosperity of both countries.
Speaking during the meeting, Adam Farah emphasized the Prosperity Party's commitment to enhancing cooperation with the Communist Party of China while expanding bilateral relations at both the state and people-to-people levels.

He noted that both parties have achieved tangible results by pursuing homegrown development approaches tailored to their respective national contexts. Adam also expressed appreciation for China's comprehensive support across various sectors and stressed the importance of broadening cooperation into new areas.

For his part, Ambassador Chen Hai commended the achievements Ethiopia has registered under the leadership of the Prosperity Party through the philosophy of Medemer. He also highlighted the growing presence of Chinese investors in Ethiopia, particularly in the mining, services, industrial parks, artificial intelligence, and construction sectors.

The two sides agreed to further strengthen relations between their respective parties in order to consolidate the achievements made in various sectors and expand cooperation across all areas of mutual interest, according to Ethiopian News Agency.

Mayor Adanech Hails Addis Ababa Voters, Reaffirms Commitment to Building a Prosperous Capital

Mayor of Addis Ababa, Adanech Abiebie, this morning thanked the residents of the capital for their participation in the successful conduct of Ethiopia's 7th General Election held on June 1, 2026.

In a message shared on her official social media platform, the mayor said the Ethiopian people had achieved the twin goals set for the election, describing the country as the true winner.

She expressed gratitude to Addis Ababa residents for helping ensure the election was conducted peacefully, democratically, freely, and fairly, and for giving the Prosperity Party a majority vote based on their confidence that its policies and strategies would safeguard Ethiopia's national interests.

According to the mayor, strengthening national unity, ensuring lasting peace, and protecting the country's national interests demonstrate Ethiopia's resilience and capability.

Speaking on behalf of the Prosperity Party and the government, Adanech thanked city residents for what she described as their determination in the face of media campaigns and pressure from both within and outside the country.

She also commended voters for turning out early despite technological disruptions and patiently waiting in long queues until late at night, saying their commitment helped strengthen Ethiopia's democracy, safeguard peace, and sustain the country's development.

The mayor said the public's vote for the Prosperity Party reflected trust that unresolved issues would be addressed, unfinished projects completed, and existing shortcomings overcome.
