People tell me they can’t lose weight due to their hormones - and yes at midlife they can make things more tricky, but…

Be honest…

How much are your choices playing a role?��Let’s use a simple example, say your a female with a maintenance calorie intake of 1500 calories a day give or take. (Guys the same goes for you - your calorie target is likely to be higher, but you're also likely to eat and drink more).

That’s maintenance, not fat loss. So you’re eating 1500 to 1600 a day Monday to Friday. Great, you won’t lose weight but you won’t be putting on too much weight.

Then comes the weekend. Some cheeky drinks on Friday or Saturday and maybe a take-away, or coffee and cake with friends, and you’re up at 3000 calories for the day…

Then Sunday it’s the roast - depending on your portions sizes then you’re looking at 1000 to 2000 calories. Before dessert.

Then there’s a few glasses of wine.

Because you’ve drunk and you’ve got munchies maybe some chips and a bag of crisps later with more wine.

Before you know it you’re at 4000 to 5000 calories. That’s for your roast session and not including whatever else you ate and drank Sunday (croissant? latte?).

So the problem isn’t your hormones is that your pretty much consuming your weeks’ worth of maintenance calories in 48 hours - in addition to the calories you consumed the rest of the week - so you’re actually double (or more) your maintenance target.

Result? Weight gain.

But you tell yourself it was just a roast dinner.

Only it wasn’t, it was all the other stuff too.��

Let’s not even go into how various hormone and neurotransmitter levels are affected, or how not exercising compounds this.��

Look, you can enjoy your food (we help our clients achieve this) and get the results you’re looking for, but it can be tricky,

��It’s all too easy to fall into this trap , but before you looking at blaming other factors, track your food over a couple of weeks to get an accurate idea of how much you’re really eating - you may be surprised.
