Copa can mean trophy or wine glass. Banco can mean substitutes bench or bank. Palo can mean stick or goal post. Chilena can mean a woman from Chile or a bicycle kick. Campo can mean countryside or field/pitch. And tarjeta can mean card or the referee’s yellow card.

Little grammar quiz for you: which verbs pair with "de," and which pair with "a"?

Science-related words that are written and mean exactly the same in English and in Spanish, and only their pronunciation changes. Super easy to learn and use, especially for A1 Spanish learners.

In Spanish our vowels only have one sound each - 5 vowels, 5 sounds.

A as in "father"
E as in "met"
I as in "ski"
O as in "stomp"
U as in "flute"

Try to say the vowels in the shortest way possible - think about adding an h at the end. So it's not "ouu", it's "oh".

El "que" es tu amigo para el subjuntivo 🤝

Aquí tienes un tip para entender cuando usar el subjuntivo

1. Para dar recomendaciones:
"Te recomiendo QUE comas más verduras"
"Me gustaría QUE vengas más seguido"

2. Oraciones temporales:
"Antes de QUE vengas, voy a trabajar"
"Después de QUE te vayas, vamos a limpiar"

3.Preferencias, pedidos y gustos para otras personas:
"Prefiero QUE no vayas"
"Necesito QUE cocines más"

4. Objeto desconocido:
"Necesito una casa QUE esté en la playa"
"Queremos un destino QUE sea barato"

It's been a looong way since my first courses and diplomas on teaching Spanish.. does someone else feel 100% different?

Nowadays I focus way more on building a student - teacher connection, setting the fundamentals of the language and making the student feel comfortable speaking. Sometimes that means giving them the grammar rules, and sometimes the full phrases ready to be used.

Every case is its own universe, and I adapt to each from my own perspective on teaching and learning. And still, I do not teach the way I learned how to teach. For me it wasn't working out.
