Tsunami Advisory Issued for Philippine Coasts After Massive Russia Quake

LEGAZPI CITY, Bicol, Philippines – July 30, 2025, 9:56 AM PST – A Tsunami Information No. 2 has been issued for multiple Philippine coastal areas following a powerful magnitude 8.7 earthquake that struck off the East Coast of Kamchatka, Russia, at 7:25 AM today.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) warns of a minor sea-level disturbance with potential tsunami waves expected to arrive starting between 1:20 PM and 2:40 PM Philippine Standard Time (PST) this afternoon. While waves are projected to be less than one meter, authorities are urging extreme caution.

"The concerned public is advised to STAY AWAY FROM THE BEACH AND NOT TO GO TO THE COAST of the following provinces until the cancellation of this advisory," PHIVOLCS stated in its latest bulletin.

Residents located very near the shoreline in these areas are strongly advised to MOVE FARTHER INLAND IMMEDIATELY.

Boat owners in harbors, estuaries, or shallow coastal waters in the affected provinces must secure their vessels and move them away from the waterfront. All boats should stay offshore in deep waters until the advisory is lifted.
