The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared mpox a global public health emergency for the second time in two years, following an outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo 🇨🇩 that has spread to neighboring countries.

⚠️ The current outbreak is concerning due to the emergence of a new clade of the virus, which appears to spread more easily through routine close contact, including sexual contact.

💰 WHO has released $1.5 million in contingency funds to combat the outbreak, with an initial response plan requiring $15 million.
