Alhambra, 'the red fortress'.
They say that it was named like that due to the construction material (clay and limestone), but in ancient times it was whitewashed (lime).
Also because the founder, Muhammad Ibn Yusuf Ibn Nasr, was a redhead, but not many know that he was not the redhead but his grandfather.
They say that the residents of the Albayzín neighborhood named the al-Qasba Yadida (new fortress) that way because of the fires and torches that used to light the workers who, tirelessly, built the new citadel also at night.

Alhambra, ‘la fortaleza roja’.
Dicen que se llama así por el material de construcción (arcilla y caliza), pero en tiempos antiguos era blanca (totalmente encalada en el exterior).
También por ser el fundador, Muhammad Ibn Yusuf Ibn Nasr, pelirrojo, pero no muchos conocen que no era él el pelirrojo, sino su abuelo.
Cuentan que los vecinos del barrio del Albayzín bautizaron así a la al-Qasba Yadida (nueva fortaleza) por el fuego que emanaba del interior en forma de lumbres y antorchas que iluminaban de noche a los trabajadores que, sin descanso, construían la nueva ciudadela.
