The documentary “RE-ENDOLLATS. The Invisible Destiny of Our Technology” has just been released, shedding light on the real journey of electronic waste and the urgent need to rethink how we produce, consume, and dispose of our devices.
The film features Àlex Jiménez, director of Nutcreatives, who contributes a key perspective: environmental and social impacts must be anticipated from the design phase. As he points out in the documentary, neither the best waste-management system nor the most conscious user —aware of repairability and recyclability— can solve the problems caused by poorly designed products built with materials that are impossible to recycle or repair, or conceived under models of planned obsolescence.
While Nutcreatives fully aligns with the documentary’s message and values both the data presented and how it is communicated, Àlex emphasizes the importance of rethinking not only products but also the business models behind them. Moving design toward genuine circularity generates medium- and long-term value and benefits at every level —including economic ones— in contrast to the short-term gains of linear, short-lived products that create significant environmental and social impacts.
We strongly recommend watching RE-ENDOLLATS to better understand the hidden realities of our technological footprint —and to reflect on the urgent need for more responsible, circular approaches to waste management and design of electronic devices.
Congratulations to the team behind it!

Circular Design in Europe: Innovation and Sustainability through Design
Between 2016 and 2019, Nutcreatives participated in the European project Circular Design: Learning for Innovative Design for Sustainability, funded by Erasmus+.
The initiative brought together 13 partners from Catalonia, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Sweden — including universities, design centers, and companies committed to the transition toward a circular economy.
As ecodesign experts, we helped develop educational resources and led the publication of best practices in circular design. We analyzed eleven inspiring case studies across Europe, featuring companies such as Sea2see, Zicla, Mamukko, Novell, Transparent Speaker, Tierra, Simon Electric, Label Breed, Erfskip, and Flokk.
📘 The resulting guide is packed with insightful texts, infographics, images, and practical tools that illustrate how these eleven companies implemented circularity in their design processes.
📥 This publication —along with many other useful resources— is available for free on the Circular Design Europe website so don't miss it if you are a design student, entrepreneur or professor!
A rewarding experience that reinforces the role of design as a driver of change toward a circular future.

Eco-design improvements must be measured. Always. At Nutcreatives, we believe sustainability isn't just about good intentions—it's about proving impact with data.
As part of the dry toilet sanitary cabin project with and we showed you in the post before, we conducted a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) to quantify the environmental impact of our dry toilet system (WseC) compared to a standard chemical WC. The results speak for themselves:
- WseC shows less than 9% of the total impact of a chemical WC across all categories.
- The biggest differences occur during the use phase, especially over a 20-year product lifespan.
- Chemical toilets require weekly emptying and refilling with toxic substances—transported from the Netherlands to Barcelona—creating significant emissions and waste.
- The biocidal chemicals used in conventional WCs are hazardous, classified as "dangerous substances" under EU waste codes and labeled as "very toxic to aquatic life" with "serious eye damage" risk in their own safety data sheets.
In contrast, the dry toilet operates without water, electricity, or harmful chemicals, offering a radically more sustainable and regenerative sanitation solution.
Integrating LCA into our design process helps us make informed decisions and show real environmental improvements. Because ecodesign should not just feel correct—it has to prove it.

Two years ago, we completed the dry toilet sanitary cabin project, co-designed with . Together, we developed three models for installation in locations without access to water or sewage networks. Dry toilets operate without water, electricity, or chemicals, making them a far more environmentally friendly option compared to conventional market alternatives.
The three cabins are designed with specific dimensions and materials to suit different uses and assembly processes while meeting the requirements of the dry toilet technology used in each case. Their basic components include a seat, a tank, and a ventilation chimney.
The primary material is Douglas fir, sourced from sustainably managed local forests and treated with linseed oil for durability. Two of the models feature a tongue-and-groove system for walls and flooring, while the third—built for greater resilience—incorporates a galvanized steel frame with wood cladding. Additionally, recycled polycarbonate roofs maximize natural light, and seat tops made of recycled plastic are recommended for easy cleaning.
The design is guided by eco-design principles, prioritizing renewable materials and modular construction for efficient transportation and disassembly. A life cycle analysis was conducted to compare the environmental impact of the dry toilet against a standard chemical WC. The results highlight the advantages of eliminating biocidal chemicals, demonstrating that WseC has 90% less impact than its chemical-based competitors. Furthermore, by enabling composting, it fosters a regenerative economy.

Buckminster Fuller is one of our heroes, and those who follow us already know this, as we talk about him from time to time!
He was a visionary architect, inventor, and thinker who, as early as the mid-20th century, was already talking about sustainability and the efficient use of resources—making him an absolute visionary. He warned that Earth's materials are limited and must be used wisely, promoting the idea of "doing more with less."
In contrast to Mies van der Rohe's "Less is more," Buckminster Fuller spoke of "doing more with less" in a more technical and systemic sense. For him, it was about efficiency in the use of resources—designing structures and solutions that achieved the maximum impact with the minimum amount of materials and energy, something essential for sustainability and technological optimization.
We also share his belief that problems should not only be solved but solved beautifully, integrating functionality and aesthetics for a better future. Moreover, it has been proven that a systemic vision is essential for designers, architects, and other project-based disciplines to enhance the impact their projects have on their surroundings, rather than focusing solely on what they are designing.
In times like the present, it is more than evident that we need many Buckminster Fullers to project us into the future with the ambition of making utopias a reality.
