Minimum Qualifications:
1) An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Anthropology or other closely-related field from an accredited institution (or equivalent) is required; however, applicants nearing the completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. The doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment (8/20/2020). 2) Evidence of effective teaching in anthropology at the undergraduate level, particularly in biological anthropology.
3) Evidence of scholarly engagement (e.g., publications, external funding, presentations, and partnerships).
Preferred Qualifications:
1) Evidence of experience mentoring undergraduates and/or graduate students.
2) Demonstrated ability to work with and mentor a diverse student population.
3) Experience developing fieldwork, research projects, or community-based projects with students.
4) Teaching and/or research experience that complements current faculty specializations, including but not limited to: human skeletal biology, forensics, dental anthropology, primatology, human ecology, immigration/migration, socioeconomic inequality, contact/colonization, or gender and identity.
Duties:
The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activity, and service to the University, profession and to the community. These responsibilities generally include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions.
The selected candidate may be assigned to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in introductory biological anthropology as well as upper-division undergraduate and graduate courses in the candidate’s area(s) of expertise. The regional area of focus is open.

Salary:
Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Department:
The Department of Anthropology is housed in the College of Natural and Social Sciences. The department is one of 15 departments within the College of Natural and Social Sciences, which supports academic programs for approximately 6000 students. Majors in the college are trained to become highly competent professionals capable of solving technical environmental problems, developing public policy, pursuing advanced degrees, and becoming productive members of a diverse society.
The Department of Anthropology offers B.A., minor, and M.A. degrees in Anthropology. We are a four-field department with 7 tenure-track faculty and active research labs and field schools in archaeology, biological anthropology, cultural anthropology, and linguistic anthropology.

Gilliane Monnier and Gilbert Tostevin are currently accepting new graduate students at the University of Minnesota. Our graduate students have exciting research opportunities, if desired, at the Paleolithic site of Crvena Stijena in Montenegro, where we are conducting NSF-funded excavations. Graduate students in our program receive five years of guaranteed funding through TA-ships and fellowships. Our department contains a vibrant community of faculty and graduate students doing research in paleoanthropology, human evolution, and Paleolithic archaeology. We have strong collaborations with colleagues in Earth Sciences; Soil Sciences; Chemistry; Biochemistry; Mathematics; Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior; and Geography. We partner with cutting-edge research instrumentation facilities such as the Advanced Imaging Service for Objects and Spaces and the Characterization Facility.

We welcome inquiries from individuals seeking to do a Ph.D. in Anthropology with a focus in Paleolithic archaeology and its sub-fields such as lithic analysis, microarchaeology, and experimental archaeology.

Dear colleagues,

David Pearce and I would like to propose a session on "Chronology and dating of rock art" at the the 25th SAFA Biennial Meeting, which will take place from 21-24 September 2020, at Oxford, UK. Please find below the proposed abstract.

We invite contributions from sites in all Africa and using whether relative and absolute dating methods. The session will be closed by a round-table.

At this time, we need only a title and the name of the participants, and if you would be happy to participate at the round-table at the end of the session, by November 14th.
