Short Talk with UTOPIALive & Greenjack ⚡️
❔ Both of you have strong international backgrounds. How do different scenes shape the way you think about melodic techno today?
💬 Utopia:
Over the last few years, the genre has changed a lot. It has become more open and, yes, more commercial in some ways. But we actually see that as a positive thing. It opened the door for melodic techno to reach wider audiences and different contexts, with more possibilities to experiment with our sound.
💬 Greenjack:
Coming from different scenes taught me flexibility. Eastern Europe gave me a very emotional, sometimes even raw approach to melody — music that carries tension and meaning. Western Europe, especially Spain, shaped my sense of groove, structure and how music works on a big dancefloor over time.
Today melodic techno for me is a balance between those worlds: emotional enough to tell a story, but functional enough to work at 5 a.m. in a club.
❔ This isn’t the first time you’ve worked together. How has your creative relationship evolved since your earlier collaborations?
💬 Utopia:
Our collaboration started quite organically. The very first thing we did together was releasing a live set video on his YouTube channel, which was a big moment for both of us. After that came releases on his label, Area Verde, and only then our first official collaboration.
Since then, we’ve done multiple projects together, and now we’re here with two new collabs. Over time, we really grew to like the way each other thinks and works. The process became very natural, efficient, and most importantly, productive.
💬 Greenjack:
I first discovered them when they sent their video to Radio Intense. What immediately stood out to me was their solid, professional approach and strong attention to detail.
Since then, our creative relationship has evolved very naturally. We share similar values and a clear understanding of what works and what doesn’t — both musically and professionally. That mutual trust and alignment made working together easier over time and allowed us to focus more on refining ideas rather than explaining fundamentals.
❔ As artists releasing on Siona Records, which release from the label’s catalogue has inspired you the most, and why?
💬 Utopia:
It’s honestly difficult to single out just one release from the Siona Records catalogue, because what we love about the label is its consistency. Many of the releases manage to be very club-oriented, which is something we particularly like and embrace in our production.
If we absolutely had to choose one, it would be Miss Monique’s “Veselka”, which we played multiple times with our hybrid live edit and received a big crowd reaction. That track stood out because of its honest emotional core, while at the same time being incredibly powerful for live shows. It perfectly represents the kind of energy and feeling we’re inspired by.
💬 Greenjack:
I’d say there are two releases from the Siona catalogue that inspired me the most.
The first one is “Electric” by Miss Monique, Aisher Swissa and Sandhaus. It came out in 2022 and really stayed with me — the melody and the words “It’s all right” felt like a form of personal support at that moment in my life. It’s a track that carries warmth and reassurance, which I find very powerful in melodic techno.
The second one is my own release, “At Night”. I was honestly overwhelmed by its success and by the amount of support it received from some of the biggest artists in the scene. That experience gave me a huge boost of motivation and confidence to keep pushing forward and developing my sound.
