Will a solar power station pay for itself?
Another case study of a real customer.
The installation in Pinar de Campoverde comprises 3 kW, six 510 W panels, without a battery. Growatt MIN 3000TL-XH inverter. The turnkey price was €3,321 (including legalisation costs); the system allows surplus energy to be fed into the grid and stored.
Before the system was installed, the customer was paying Iberdrola around €100.
Here is the generation graph for June; the system started generating electricity almost immediately after installation. We installed it on 4 June. From the 4th to the 30th, almost every day saw output above 18–19 kWh, with peaks reaching 21 kWh. In just under a month, total generation amounted to around 514 kWh.
It’s worth noting straight away that winter will bring different figures. The sun is lower in the sky, the days are shorter, there is rain in places, and generation will drop off. For the province of Alicante, the average annual output for such a system is usually 1,500–1,700 kWh per kilowatt of capacity; for these 3 kW, that works out at around 4,500–5,100 kWh in total per year.
The payback period here depends directly on how efficiently this energy is distributed. A station without a battery generates the most electricity between 11 am and 5 pm, and it makes sense to run the washing machine, dishwasher, water heater, air conditioning and car charger during this time – anything that can be scheduled for the daytime. The more you use yourself at any given moment, the quicker your investment pays for itself, because using your own energy is always more cost-effective than receiving compensation for exporting it.
How many years do you think it will take for a solar power station to pay for itself?

The 6 kW station we installed in Finestrat a few days ago cost 5,300 euros. Today we logged into the app to check the figures, even though the day isn’t even over yet.
The station generated 34.1 kW. The house consumed 18.6 kW of this, whilst the remaining 15.5 kW was fed into the grid and purchased by Iberdrola. At night, when the sun isn’t shining, the house drew a further 8.2 kW from the grid, which is perfectly normal — we wouldn’t get by without it.
Let’s do the maths – you can’t do without it, can you?)) The 18.6 kW that the house didn’t buy from the grid represents a saving of 19 cents per kW (price including all taxes); the 15.5 kW sold back to the grid represents an income of 6 cents – the grid doesn’t pay much. Add it all up, multiply by 365 days – that works out at around 1,630 euros a year. Divide 5,300 by 1,630 – the system pays for itself in just over three years.
And here’s an important point: July is the month when the system operates at full capacity, as the sun is high in the sky and shines for long hours. In other words, today’s figures aren’t representative; they’re above average. But it is precisely on summer days like this that you can clearly see what the system is capable of. And even if the annual output turns out to be lower, the payback period will still be around four years. And that, in my view, is an excellent figure. In my next posts, I’ll be sharing information with you about other installations.

We install solar power stations throughout Spain 🇪🇸☀️

Soon, you’ll be able to find out the exact cost of a solar power system on our website without having to call us or submit an enquiry.
We’re still fine-tuning a few things, but very soon anyone will be able to visit the site, enter their address, specify how much they pay for electricity each month, or simply enter the required capacity, and the system will calculate the price itself. Not an estimate, not dependent on conditions, but a specific fixed price. Including a list of equipment and a panel layout diagram.
No need to call to find out the price. No ‘leave a request and we’ll call you back’.
Just visit the site, calculate, and decide. Available in 8 languages, for those who don’t yet speak Spanish.
Keep an eye out for updates – we’re launching soon. I’ll leave a link to the website in the comments, as Facebook doesn’t like that sort of thing.
