Russian Step by Step
The informal way of greeting is
Привет! [pree-vet] - Hi!
It is used with family, friends, classmates - people you know quite well. In addition to Привет! you can also hear:
Как дела? [kak de-la] - How are you? (literally: How are things?)
Как жизнь? [kak zhizn'] - How are you? (literally: How is life?)
In answer to informal Как дела? or Как жизнь?, Russians usually say:
Хорошо. [ha-ra-sho] - Everything is good.
Нормально. [nar-mal'-na] - Everything is ok. (literally: Everything is normal.)
Отлично! [at-leech-na] - Great!
Так себе! [tak see-be] - So-so.
