Today we will talk about a great opportunity that unfortunately wasn’t available to most manufacturers.
In every story there is an MC, a main character.
In today’s story our MC is Manufacturer to Consumer direct selling.

There are many benefits of direct selling to consumers:
Time to market is significantly decreased. Instead of the long traditional retail sales cycle, you can prototype, test, and move to market quickly. Agility is a key differentiator in competitive industries.

In addition, you have complete brand control. Brand image isn’t subject to distortion or dilution by third parties. Consumers like it when they can interact directly with a brand. It’s always wise to give the consumer what they like.

In addition to brand control you have price control as well. Direct selling allows you to further reinforce MSRP (manufacturer’s suggested retail price) and communicate directly with consumers about price points.
Selling direct allows you to collect a goldmine of data. Better customer data leads to better promotions, better products, better relationships and more sales.

But every story also has a villain and our villain is the cost.
For many manufacturers, working with wholesalers was traditionally the only way to get their products in front of customers. Wholesalers provided the manpower, infrastructure, and retail space that the manufacturers couldn’t afford on their own.

But in every great story, the MC always finds a way, Be it the power of friendship, the drive to always do good and help people or simply a magical sword, it’s always something magical that helps the MC overcome the odds. And in our case, it’s modern day magic or what we simply call Technology.
Previously, manufacturer to consumer direct selling required a massive capital investment in brick and mortar stores and additional employees. Now the investment is much smaller and it is in technology. A single eCommerce enabled website is the equivalent of a store on every corner in every city.
Benefits of selling online:
Making savings in set-up and operational costs. You don’t need to rent high street premises, pay shop assistants or answer a lot of pre-sales queries.
Reducing order processing costs – customer orders can automatically come straight into your orders database from the website.
Reaching a global audience, thereby increasing sales opportunities.
Competing with larger businesses by being able to open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Being able to receive payment more quickly from online transactions.
Improving your offerings using the data gathered by tracking customer purchases.
Using your online shop to showcase your products to existing customers.
In the end, every story tries to deliver a statement, ours might be bit of a cliché by now but it surely rings true “Technology is the future.”
