Dealing with adolescents

At this age adolescents are observers, rebellious, seeking their independence

1. As they will be observers, they will subconsciously mirror everything you do, how you talk with your friends, how you deal with your family, how you handle problems.Make sure to lead by example.

2. Rebellious. Cause part of this period is seeking their identity. They’re confused by who they are. And they want to know who they are. Make sure to be their greatest supporter in whatever they do. Reassure them with your love. Give them the freedom to make their choices. Validate their emotions. Point out their strengths.

3. Seeking independence. They want to feel responsible. Give them tiny tasks and reward them with money, so they view themselves as working adults. Show them you trust their choices. Let them know it’s okay to make mistakes but how to learn from it. Don’t be over protective as over protecting will drift them away and they’ll end up doing what they want anyway. So it better be under your supervision

Lastly be their best friend. Be the cool parent. Use their slangs. Know their priorities and make it your priority. Impress their friends. Be SMARTLY (not forcefully) involved in their lives.

“One thing that kills your productivity, dreams, and one of the core causes behind any mental disorder is irrational thoughts/worries

Average human tend to have approximately 66.000 thoughts a day .. which means we all “overthink”... but those mentally healthy identify their negative/positive thoughts, limit the negative thoughts and intend to have more positive thoughts “ Yasmine Abuelnaga
