Sham Ennessim is a festival celebrated by Egyptians every year on the day after Coptic Easter. This festival has a long and fascinating history dating back to ancient Egypt

The Egyptians celebrated Sham Ennessim for the first time during the ancient Egyptian era (about 2700 BC) and continued to celebrate it during the Ptolemaic era, the Roman era, the Middle Ages, and to the present day. According to records written by Plutarch during the first century AD, the ancient Egyptians used to offer salted fish, lettuce, and onions to their gods during the spring festival known as Shmu (ancient Egyptian: šmw).

The festival has recently evolved and has become known as Sham Ennessim, which means "the smell of the breeze". Today Egyptians celebrate Sham Ennessim with traditional foods such as salted fish, onions, and lettuce, and families gather together to enjoy picnics in parks and other outdoor places.
