Today, is celebrated the Ecuadorian Amazon Day. On February 12, 1542, Francisco de Orellana began his expedition from Quito. Initially, the goal of the expedition was to find the legendary city of "El Dorado." Along the way, Orellana encountered fierce resistance from the women of the local tribes, who reminded him of the Amazons from classical mythology. This is how the river acquired its name, which we still use today. After six months, the expedition reached the Atlantic Ocean. The Amazon is the largest region in Ecuador and one of the most biodiverse areas in the world, rich in both nature and culture. It is a place worth visiting! Hoy se celebra el Día de la Amazonía Ecuatoriana. El 12 de febrero de 1542, Francisco de Orellana inició su expedición desde Quito. Originalmente, la expedición buscaba la ciudad de "El Dorado". En su camino, encontró una intrépida resistencia por parte de las mujeres de las tribus locales, lo que le recordó a las Amazonas de la mitología clásica. Así es como el río tomó su nombre, que es usado hasta el día de hoy. Después de seis meses, llegaron al Océano Atlántico.
