Can you make onboarding easier without overwhelming people?

In my latest teardown, I start from a cluttered “all-in-one” onboarding form for a meal-planning app and rework it using core UX patterns:

✅ Limited Choice to focus users on 3–4 clear starting goals
✅ Chunking to turn one long form into simple steps
✅ Goal-Gradient Effect with visible progress that fills as each step is completed
✅ Endowed Progress Effect by starting users ~20% complete with known info pre-filled
✅ Recognition over Recall using tappable options instead of open text questions

No tricks. Just UX structure that reduces cognitive load and keeps users moving.

If you’re a UX designer working on onboarding or activation flows, this walkthrough shows a concrete interaction pattern you can adapt quickly.

All patterns are drawn from the Persuasive Patterns card deck.
