Cars like this 1 of 33 993 GT2 Clubsport often live a life behind glass. This one is more at home on the streets of Tokyo 🗼

As a 20 year old visiting Tokyo for the first time to attend Luftgekuhlt, I was loving life. My week was filled with fantastic times, but a night drive through the Shutoku Expressway in a 993 GT2 Clubsport was a huge highlight.

The feeling of winding through a network of tight, snaking highways packed between illuminated buildings is even more visceral and surreal with the GT2’s air-cooled growl echoing off the barriers.

Y. S is the car’s third owner, and you can immediately tell that it’s in the right hands.

‘The second owner used it almost exclusively on the track and sold it to me in 2013 so he could buy his next race car.’ He says. ‘I’ve always been a fan of the 993, I actually owned a Carrera 4 at the time — so when this came up, the decision made itself.’

To him, it’s the ultimate air-cooled 911 and a perfect escape from the everyday. From the passenger seat of Tokyo at night, it’s hard to disagree.

In Hangzhou, Daniel Statham Studio has taken the least glamorous typology in any city’s infrastructure portfolio and given it a genuine sense of occasion ✨️

The Future Car Park, built for the Hangzhou CBD Municipal Government, stores up to 500 cars inside a cluster of sculptural towers. But the towers don’t stop at car storage. They blossom upward into a roofscape of plazas, event areas and gardens, turning 30,740 sqm of infrastructure into something closer to urban theatre.

Drivers can park manually or leave their car at a basement drop zone, where an automated system stacks it inside what the studio calls the “cocoon” of the towers. The exterior gives the city glimpses of that vertical movement, while also helping the building breathe; the towers work like twenty-first-century chimneys, drawing fresh air through the basement levels and taking the pressure off heavy mechanical ventilation.

It’s a slightly sci-fi idea, but the best parts are strangely human: shaded plazas, rooftop gardens, glowing ribbed interiors, and the feeling that a typology nobody loves has been taken seriously.
