The easiest way is to let them work alone (as part of a certain exercise) and then present to the group. It's productive, inclusive and will get different opinions out on the table much quicker than open group discussions.

This is how we brainstorm for content in VISPA. We built a space just for content. Fast time-boxed brainstorming sessions help us to come up with ideas for content.
We continue to use the space, start with a fun activity and then get our creative juices flowing. It's our activating, engaging & creative space where nothing is "off-topic".
