Pinakothek der Moderne

Take your time, feel the lightness, and experience color and light. This is the invitation of Rei Naito’s current Rotunda project, „Colour Beginning“.

In this reel, Michael Hering, director of the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung München, shares his thoughts and impressions of the installation.

Free of charge in the Rotunda of the Pinakothek der Moderne throughout this spring and summer.

Day and night, light and darkness—lines divide the space. Details become visible, reflect, and disappear again. The gaze shifts—and with it, perception.

The second jointly curated exhibition of the four museums at the Pinakothek der Moderne is dedicated to the theme of reflection—understood as an optical phenomenon, a process of thought, and a means of artistic expression. In contrast to the first anniversary exhibition, which focused on the Modernism of the 1920s and 30s, REFLEXION extends to the present.

Under the guiding themes of light, mirror, and transparency, works from art, architecture, graphic design, and design enter into dialogue.

In addition to the exhibition spaces on the ground floor and second floor, the presentation also includes “satellites” such as the glass installation at the museum’s entrance and the window transformed into an artwork at the top of the grand east staircase.

The exhibition runs until May 31!

Tag und Nacht, Licht und Dunkelheit, Linien teilen den Raum, Details werden sichtbar, spiegeln sich, verschwinden wieder.

Der Blick wandert – und mit ihm die Wahrnehmung.
Die zweite gemeinschaftlich kuratierte Ausstellung der vier Museen in der Pinakothek der Moderne widmet sich dem Thema der Reflexion – verstanden als optisches Phänomen, Denkprozess und künstlerisches Ausdrucksmittel.

Im Gegensatz zur ersten Jubiläumsausstellung, die die Moderne der 1920/30er Jahre fokussierte, reicht REFLEXION bis in die Gegenwart.

Unter den Leitmotiven Licht, Spiegel und Transparenz treten Werke aus Kunst, Architektur, Graphik und Design in Dialog. Zur Präsentation gehören neben den Ausstellungsräumen im Erdgeschoss und zweiten Obergeschoss auch „Satelliten“ wie die Glasarbeit am Eingang der Pinakothek der Moderne oder das in ein Kunstwerk verwandelte Fenster am oberen Ende der großen Treppe Ost.

Have you spotted it yet?

In front of the Pinakothek der Moderne — right outside the windows of the exhibition CONVIVIUM. FOOD SYSTEMS AT THE LIMIT — a summer kitchen with a large cooking island and communal dining table has appeared.

The project was designed and built by Tillmann Gebauer together with students from the seminar “Design Build CONVIVIUM. The Kitchen as a Public Space” at the TUM Chair of Architectural History and Curatorial Practice. It was realized in the TUM Designfactory 1:1. In the video, Tillmann introduces the summer kitchen.

Until September, this space will host collective chopping, planting, harvesting, cooking — and discussions.

The summer kitchen understands cooking as a public space: a place for exchange, encounters, and new perspectives on our food systems.

Schon entdeckt? 👀

Vor der Pinakothek der Moderne — direkt vor den Fenstern der Ausstellung CONVIVIUM. NAHRUNGSSYSTEME AM LIMIT — steht jetzt eine Sommerküche mit großer Kücheninsel und langem Esstisch.

Entworfen und gebaut wurde sie von Tillmann Gebauer gemeinsam mit Studierenden des Seminars „Design Build CONVIVIUM. The Kitchen as a Public Space“ am TUM Lehrstuhl für Architekturgeschichte und kuratorische Praxis. Realisiert wurde das Projekt in der Designfactory 1:1 der TUM. Im Video stellt Tillmann euch die Sommerküche vor.

Bis September wird hier gemeinsam geschnippelt, gepflanzt, geerntet, gekocht — und diskutiert.

Die Sommerküche versteht Kochen als öffentlichen Raum: als Ort für Austausch, Begegnung und neue Perspektiven auf unsere Nahrungssysteme.
