Yesterday, on December 1st, we commemorated World AIDS Day.

A lot of scientific advances have been made in the past decades and today we are able to better understand this condition and its underlying mechanisms.

Nevertheless, HIV is still a global pandemic with over 38 million people globally affected in 2021 (WHO). Thus, there is still a need for increasing awareness, improving education, fighting prejudice, and finding new treatment options.

A new trial launched at the beginning of 2022 now raises hope in developing a promising HIV vaccine.

📄 A UK-study shows: 2% of the population in the UK experienced self-reported symptoms.

🔬Currently there is a lot of research going on around the long-term effects of a COVID-19 infection and promising studies have been published discussing possible underlying mechanisms and treatment options. But still - we are just at the beginning of understanding Long-COVID condition.

As expert James C. Jackson discussed during our Q&A session this summer, one of the factors that makes Long-COVID so complex, is the variety of different phenotypes:
💬 “One of the challenges for us […] is to try to figure out what are your particular needs with regard to a given COVID patient? How do we match those needs with particular therapies? There are people with fatigue as a primary symptom or perhaps exclusively a symptom, there are people with PTSD due to the trauma of COVID as a primary symptom. There are people with brain fog as a primary symptom.”

📌 We made it our mission to portray Long-COVID and its complexity by giving different Long-COVID patients the chance to share their story. Especially focusing on their rehabilitation-journey in specialized facilities.
And it doesn’t end there: Their treating physicians will also provide expert opinions and treatment options they see for each of the patients.
