Meet the palmaris longus: a small muscle with a long tendon that runs from your inner elbow into your palm. In some people, it’s missing completely, and that’s usually not a problem at all.

Try this: touch your thumb to your pinky, then flex your wrist. See a thin tendon pop up in the middle? That may be your palmaris longus.

No tendon? You might be part of the population that naturally doesn’t have it.
