Tricone‘s Engineer‘s Meetup #1 was an amazing experience, way beyond our expectations. 12 engineers/producers got together at Tricone to share visions and experiences and get to know each other‘s work.

We did the following experiment: 9 engineers mixed the same song at their personal studios, and we compared the results. The results were eye opening for everyone. They were SO DIFFERENT. Some had kick and snare up front, other guitars. Some reinterpreted the track completely and cut and pasted elements/ muted arrangements, other respected the original recording. The overall eq curve of the mix varied greatly as well as the dynamics. Some mixes were in the box, some analog. Great results were achieved with totally different approaches.

Puting the work in perspective is the hardest part of the job and the most important skill to develop. We will continue favouring this mindset and will repeat this experiment regularly.

The cherry on top was that we could then mix the same track together on the API Audio 1608 II, using outboard by Maag Audio, TK Audio Shadow Hills Industries and Chandler Limited. Super fun times! Monitoring alternated between Dutch & Dutch and PSI Audio. The music was recorded by Francis Stuart Milne at Tricone using the mentioned gear as well as Soyuz Microphones and Stager Microphones.

We are very happy to announce that we will be distributing the Zulu by Handsome Audio to EU/UK/ASIA/AUS. The Zulu is a passive tape simulator and Retro Enhancer used for tracking, mixing and mastering. You can use it subtly to add warmth or glue to your mix buss, fatten up drums and synths or generate radical, lo-fi sounds. It also helps vocals become more interesting and sit down better in the mix. Being analog and non linear itself, the Zulu's circuit actually behaves similar to tape, and therefore produces a comparable musical experience.

As many of you already know we have been selling gear to help keep our studio in good health and reasonably priced. We also get to meet the creators of the gear we love. Langston showed us his lab and new designs by LMI -Langston Masingale Industries- Transformers and PCBs. Amazing, cutting edge stuff.

We are honored to host Mario Breuer‘s producing workshop on 1/10. He produced a large proportion of Latin America‘s classic albums. He worked with Charly Garcia Parte De La Religion , Gustavo Adrián Cerati, Soda Stereo, Luis Alberto Spinetta, among many others. He will be recording a band live and then explaining his mix methods. The workshop is organised by Fundación Besares , a foundation that is helping spanish speaking musicians in Berlin.

We are looking for a band that would like to be recorded by Mario. The only requisite is to have at least one spanish speaking member. The workshop will be dictated in English.

We are extremely gratefull to be able to host an event with a profesional of Mario‘s stature. Thank you Mario!!

Hello, fellow audio engineers. We are happy to announce our first audio engineer’s meetup. During this event, 10 audio engineers will gather at Tricone to share audio production knowledge. To provide a common ground all engineers will bring a mix of the same song to the event. We will then comment on each other’s mixes while discussing the techniques, tools, and mindset involved. Also, we will have the song patched into our API Audio 1608 II console and outboard (Chandler Limited, TK Audio, Maag Audio) so that we can mix and experiment with the song on the spot. And of course, drink beer and eat pizza. 😉

This is a free event that will be repeated regularly. If interested please send us a link where we can listen to your work. We will then send you an invitation and the audio stems. Groups will be organized by us so that they are interesting and diverse. Hope to see you there!

We are excited to present our new Workshop Series! On our first event, we'll have the honor of hosting Gordon Raphael, the producer that shaped the sound of iconic artists like The Strokes and Regina Spektor.

We will be recording and mixing a song by Ponte Pilas, going through the technical aspects of the process, but more importantly understanding the spirit of a live recording. Gordon will help us understand what is important and what is not important when recording live. This might look simple but it takes a lot of experience to fully understand. Thanks Gordon for sharing your vision with us.

We now own this 1965 Ludwig kit (22,13,16) as part of our studio backline. It sounds like a dream! Warmth, punch, low end, it has it all.

For us, everything starts at the source. Great players using great instruments. So we are building quite a collection of quality instruments to inspire musicians and get great performances.

Acoustic treatment days. The rooms at Funkhaus were made for music, mostly built around special room ratios that provide a very balanced sound. The live room is based on the 1:1.26:1.59 ratio, developed by Volkman in 1942. We are making small adjustments that make the rooms more suitable for loud music, testing different diffuser types and some absortion. But we are always making sure that the original sound of the room is still present. It is a quest, but worth every minute.

This is one of those gear in the basement stories. let us explore the basement of his old place in Berlin. We found his old friend, the Clavinet C. Now he’s hanging out with relatives at our studio, putting FUNK back into the Funkhaus. (Bad joke, but couldn’t help it😊)

2021 was a time of change and innovation for Tricone. Since August we have had the pleasure of introducing as a part of the team. We algo upgraded the studio with th 1608 ii console, speakers, microphones and other special gear and instruments. In 2022 we will follow the same trend, with more exiting upgrades and new studio uses. A full re-launch of Tricone is coming, maintaining our commitment with music and respect for musicians.

So let’s stay together in 2022 and make great music! ❤️❤️❤️
