Senzeni Marasela at the 61st Venice Biennale, In Minor Keys. ✦
Seven large-scale textile works suspended through the full height of the Arsenale — red wool hand-stitched onto tjali, mixed-fabric ceremonial blankets. Each title names a South African mining disaster: location, year, lives lost. The stitch patterns trace the slopes of collapsed mines. Cloth as cartography. Waiting made monumental.
We are so glad she is here.
📍 On view through 22 November 2026.

THE ARTISTS ARE PRESENT & SCREENING OF SOLARIS | Saturday, 11 April, from 3 pm
We warmly invite you to Karl-Marx-Allee and look forward to exploring the exhibition together with you and the artists. Following the afternoon in the presence of the exhibiting artists, the program of Janos Bergob’s and Tim Vormbäumen’s VHS video installation All the World Will Be Your Enemy will be switched, and from 5:30 PM Solaris will be screened.
Kay Lotte Pommer paints in, on, and with metal and glass. Delicate figures cut through wall pieces made of steel, metal, and glass, while fleetingly placed traces contrast in their fragile movement with the stability of their supporting materials. Pommer collects such traces in everyday life. She reads the city as a legible network of surfaces, materials, and objects in which actions and time inscribe themselves. The works shown in the exhibition examine, through this urban archive, the production of signs in urban space. Signs as clues, remnants, and visual traces, but also in the metaphysical, imperative sense that instructs, directs, or prohibits actions.
