OPENING TODAY

𝘎𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘩 𝘌𝘷𝘢𝘯𝘴: 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘯𝘵𝘪-𝘝𝘪𝘳𝘶𝘴 𝘚𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘱𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴 opens today at Leeds Art Gallery: the first solo exhibition dedicated to the artist’s ongoing series of small-scale plaster sculptures. The exhibition launches Leeds Art Gallery’s Summer of Sculpture, a programme showcasing some of sculpture’s visionaries and celebrating the rich history of the medium in the region.

Evans began the Anti-Virus Sculptures during the first Covid lockdown at his home in Connecticut, USA. The series was founded out of a desire to protect himself and others from the threat and anxieties of the pandemic, creating an ‘army of sculptures’. The works combine the man-made with the organic, extending Evans’s lifelong exploration of form and its limits.
