Afripoli

🇸🇳 Touba is the second-largest city in and the spiritual capital of the Mouride brotherhood. It's also one of the few cities of its size in West Africa that runs much of its own education, infrastructure and public services independently of the state.

Late last month, Afripoli visited alongside H.E. Pavel Procházka, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Senegal. The substantive core of the trip was energy: solar solutions for the Great Mosque, health centres and other public infrastructure that serves the wider community.

🤝 The visit also opened conversations on academic cooperation — links between Czech universities and the Cheikh Ahmadou Khadim Complex, particularly in agriculture and agri-food systems.

☀️ Senegal has set itself one of the more ambitious renewable energy targets in West Africa, with a goal of 40% renewables in installed electricity capacity by 2030. Czech expertise in solar technology, water management and applied education fits this moment well — but turning that alignment into projects that actually get built requires people who understand both contexts on the ground.

That's the work we're doing in Touba. And it's only one of the places where it's taking shape.
