🛫 airBaltic has joined a growing list of airlines reducing capacity this summer.

The airline has cancelled a limited number of flights, including the Riga–Prague service on June 9.

The company said the changes reflect wider industry adjustments driven by high fuel prices and ongoing pressure on operating costs.

“Schedule adjustments are standard practice. This summer, many European airlines are rescheduling routes due to fuel price pressures,” said airBaltic spokesperson Edwards Dalderis.

The reductions reflect a broader trend across Europe. Lufthansa has announced plans to cancel around 20,000 short-haul flights by October following changes in its regional operations, aiming to cut fuel consumption by roughly 40,000 tonnes.

Czech carrier Smartwings has also adjusted its summer schedule, reducing flights to Paris and temporarily suspending services to Toulouse, Bucharest and Brussels.

🚲 Prague’s city center will once again fill with cyclists on May 31 as organizers prepare for a large public ride marking World Bicycle Day.

The event, titled “Světová cyklojízda 2026” is open to everyone, including families with children and beginner riders. Participation is free of charge.

Cyclists will gather on Štvanice Island near the Bike Jesus club, with the ride set to begin at 2 p.m. Organizers say the route will cover around 10 kilometers and will include only mild elevation changes, making it accessible even for less experienced participants.

To ensure safety, police will temporarily close roads along the route before riders pass through the city.

After the ride, participants will return to Štvanice Island, where a public program is expected to begin at 4 p.m.

Organizers are asking participants to complete a short online registration form ahead of the event to help estimate attendance and coordinate traffic restrictions with police.
