Cabo Verde Digital Awards 🏆🎖️

Last week I attended event that spotlighted the digital trailblazers of Cabo Verde.

It was a truly spectacular event that exceeded my expectations.
There were 14 kickass categories (like Startup, Founder, Influencer of the Year etc), 60 nominees over 50,000 votes, and a great afterparty 😅😅

It was my first time in Praia and a great opportunity to meet players in Cabo Verde Digital Ecosystem.
I have had many interesting conversations and met new local friends that also showed me around and made my visit. 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Major congratulations to the organizers Cabo Verde Digital, winners, all nominees, partners for making this happen!

I believe that remote work and digital nomads should be connected to the local ecosystem, especially digital, to create win win synergies so I am leading by example. 👩🏼‍💻🧑🏻‍💻

Do you know what is Mandinga❓❓

It refers to a vibrant and energetic Carnival tradition! It’s a famous street party where participants dress up as “Mandingas,” inspired by African warriors, wearing costumes made of black paint, feathers, and other traditional accessories. 🥁🥁

The funny part is I always thought I didn’t like a Carnival. But then I discovered than living in Europe you basically have no idea what a Carnaval really is and what kind of energy it brings 😅😅

This is one of the highlights of the Cape Verdean Carnival, especially in places like Mindelo on São Vicente Island. The Mandinga groups parade through the streets with drumming, dancing, and incredible energy, celebrating African heritage and community spirit in a playful, dramatic way.🕺🏻💃🏼

It’s an iconic part of Cape Verdean culture—loud, proud, and full of life. And truly unique!
My absolute favourite part of Carnival. 😍😍
Mandingas already started and will be happening until March.

Do you know what is the number one question remote workers ask when considering visiting a destination❓❓

It is always this one: “Is there a remote work community?”

Paradise beaches, good food and friendly people, culture and activities even are simply not enough to attract this kind of visitors.
Digital nomads look for shared experiences and company. They really value offline gatherings, meetups and activities.
This is what creates a balance after working online during the day. 🧑🏻‍💻👩🏼‍💻

In Mindelo, Cape Verde partnered with to organize events for our community. 🥁🥁

We welcome digital nomads but also local people as we aim to create an inclusive and diverse community that will provide a sense of belonging.

This picture is from our community lunch Saturday where we ate catchupa. 🥘🍲

If you are in Mindelo or considering to come drop me a DM and join us on one of our events!

Did you ever visited Cape Verde?

Bridging Borders & Building Partnerships in Cape Verde❗️❗️

Had the pleasure of meeting Lionel Fortes recently in Mindelo.
He is a founder of software company and is already ahead of the curve, hiring local talent and operating remotely with a globally distributed team.
Talking about leading by example in Cape Verde! 🇨🇻🇨🇻

We talked about synergies between Marit-Software GmbH and the Cape Verde Digital Nomads Project.
I believe remote workers should be connected and integrated into local ecosystem and communities creating opportunities for potential collaborations and friendships. 🤝🤝

If you’re a local business or organization in Cape Verde and want to explore partnerships with Cape Verde Digital Nomads project let’s connect. There’s huge potential here!💪🏻💪🏻

Cabo Verde No Stress 🇨🇻

It is the popular slogan you will find in many places and on souvenirs.
And they don’t just write it, they really live it!

How did they even came up with it?
I am sure whoever invented it must have been watching Europeans and noticed something was off 😅😅

It is a lifestyle destination where time pass slowly.
Mornings are relaxed and evenings long and filled with good music and dance.💃🏼 🕺🏻

From the first time I got here it catched my attention how locals have better energy, leave more in harmony with the world and are just happier. 😀😃

I also noticed spending time here has a very positive effect on people mentalh health and happiness levels, especially those coming from bigger city and Western countries.
It seems to provide a very needed balance.

What do you think about no stress life philosophy?

Which Cape Verdean island is best for remote workers❓❓

If I had a euro for every time I’ve been asked this, I’d be flying private 😅😅

Here’s the truth:
Depends what kind of traveller you are and what you want out of destination. 👈🏻👈🏻

Each Capeverdean island is different and has its own vibe. In my opinion you should come for a winter and do some island hopping.
You will love it! 🥰

Today let’s talk a bit about Sal.
It is actually the most visited Capeverdean island.

Why? Let me break it down:

- Big and picturesque beaches where you can play volleyball or kitesurf
- Direct and affordable flight connections
- Many accomodation options
- Safety: You can walk around at night
- Parties: there is a party street with many restaurants and bar gathering to foreigners
- the most Westernized island ( if you want to stay in a comfort zone)

Have you ever been to Sal?

How much do you think it costs to get to Cape Verde❓❓

You are probably wrong… 😉😉

I have a great news: You are lucky because EasyJet is now flying direct from Lisbon to Sal—4 hours. It’s the first time Cape Verde has a low-cost airline, which basically means you can get there for 100 euro! 👌🏻👌🏻

This winter, I’m building the community in Mindelo but you are recommended to explore a little. Think beach vibes in Sal, culture in Santiago, and jaw-dropping hikes in Santo Antão. Trust me, some island-hopping in Cape Verde is the real fun.😀😃

You can also catch direct flights from Paris and Bergamo. There are also TAP Air Portugal and Cabo Verde Airlines flying directly to Sal, Mindelo and Praia.👈🏻👈🏻

Warning: Cape Verde is gaining more interest recently (and for good reason), so if you want a decent accommodation, book early.
I have warn you! 😅😅

So, have you ever been to Cape Verde?
