Students from the WASCAL Master’s Research Programme on Climate Change and Marine Sciences took part in a two‑week training expedition aboard the German research vessel FS POLARSTERN, working side by side with experienced scientists.

The expedition departed from Mindelo, Cabo Verde on 01 May 2026 and arrived in Bremerhaven, Germany, on 15 May 2026, offering participants a unique hands‑on experience in ocean and climate research.

During the journey, students conducted CO₂ measurements, analyzed marine biodiversity, and used advanced technologies to better understand the impacts of climate change on the oceans and atmosphere.

In Bremerhaven, the students also engaged in discussions with the Federal Minister of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), Dorothee Bär, highlighting the strong institutional and scientific support behind this initiative.
