The town of Gibara is 33 km north of Holguín via a winding road through picturesque countryside. The main city was founded on January 16, 1817. It is called La Villa Blanca (The White Town).
It has a beautiful and breezy landscape and, although small, it possesses a peculiar charm, exhibiting an architectural heritage reflecting almost two centuries of history, as well as its people's cultural roots. It boasts excellent architectural designs: stately neoclassical old mansions with open porches and stained-glass windows as well as a well-planned layout of its streets and parks.
