If history retains the ninth century for the foundation of Angkor, the ruins of this Cambodian site would only be the known monumental part of a presence dating back to the Bronze Age and revealed by the necropolis of Koh Ta Méas, dated from at least 1800 BCE.

No less than twenty-seven graves were cleared, with their many offerings. The human skeletons of the fifty-nine identified individuals are of great value for the knowledge of the prehistoric settlement of mainland Southeast Asia. This reveals a weak population, which has however developed an immune resistance to malaria.

These excavations were the subject of an exhibition at the National Museum of Phnom Penh until February 2010.
