What can we learn about teamwork from bees? 🐝

In collaboration with our partners from the Bee Center, we organized an educational session dedicated to the fascinating organization of a beehive – one of the most perfect examples of teamwork in nature.

We learned that a bee community functions as a seamless system in which every individual has a clearly defined role and responsibility, communication is fast, precise, and goal-oriented, and decisions are made collectively, in the best interest of the community. One of the most interesting insights is how bees make decisions – through a process that involves sharing information, evaluating options, and reaching consensus, without centralized decision-making.

In addition, the way energy within the hive is aligned and utilized shows how trust, discipline, and a shared focus are essential for stability and long-term results. A particularly interesting parallel with the business environment can be seen in adaptability – within the hive, roles shift according to the needs of the community, and resources are allocated where they are most needed. Similarly, in well-functioning organizations, flexibility, openness to change, and timely response often make the difference between good and outstanding results. These perspectives remind us that a successful team is not defined only by individual achievements, but above all by how we work together.

The strong interest from colleagues and the many questions raised during the session showed how much this topic inspires us to rethink the way we work and collaborate. As a small token of appreciation for their participation in the dynamic discussion, we gifted colleagues jars of honey produced by bees from the hives on the roof of our HQ, along with a mix of flower seeds for bees.

Highlights included Niels Pflaeging, who offered thought-provoking perspectives on leadership and organizational innovation. We’d also like to highlight Marko Majkić, whose session on effective team communication and building high-performing teams shared practical insights we’re already looking to apply in our day-to-day work.
