When a child makes a movement, it is important to understand where that movement comes from.

Some movements occur as an automatic response of the body to position, touch, changes in balance, or effort. These are reflex patterns.
Other movements require intention, planning, stability, control, and the body’s ability to adapt to the situation.

In children with cerebral palsy, reflex patterns may be more pronounced and can take over part of the movement. That is why it is not enough simply to observe whether a movement occurs.
It is important to understand whether the child can control, repeat, adapt, and use that movement in everyday activities.

In BDA therapy, we view movement as information about how the body is organized. We do not look only at what the child does, but at how the body produces that movement, where stability is present, where compensations occur, and where support is needed to develop better control.

The goal of therapy is not simply to elicit movement, but to help the body organize it in a more functional way.

When the body’s organization changes, the quality of movement changes as well.

This video shows the changes that occur through the BDA therapy process.

Better organization of the spinal column, more stable trunk support, and more functional head control enable a more efficient movement pattern and reduce the need for compensations.

That is why, in BDA therapy, the focus is not only on the movement the child performs, but on the organization of the structure that makes that movement possible. When the body gains a stable foundation, better conditions are created for the development of functional motor abilities.

Every child goes through a detailed assessment, based on which an individual therapy plan is created and adapted to the child’s abilities and needs.

Many children do not struggle only with muscle strength.
The body often lacks stability, clear organization, and control of movement.
Because of that, movement can become difficult, unstable, and less functional.

In BDA therapy, we use TheraTogs as additional support for the body during therapy and everyday activities.

Its role is not to “hold” the body instead of the muscles, but to provide gentle and continuous support that helps improve posture and movement organization.

When the body gets better stability and support:
• posture becomes more organized
• the trunk becomes more stable
• movement becomes more precise
• walking becomes safer
• the body uses fewer compensations

Within the BDA approach, we do not see the suit as a solution by itself, but as a tool that can help a child access better and more functional movement.

At the BDA Center, parents can receive a professional assessment, purchase a TheraTogs suit, and learn how to use it properly.
