IGEM: Costa Rica

Para integrar las necesidades de la sociedad en nuestro proyecto, realizamos una visita a la empresa Nikkos CR, que se dedica especialmente a la elaboración de productos lácteos. Ahí aprendimos sobre los procesos industriales que realizan y las problemáticas que enfrentan, mismas que podrían ser solucionadas a través de la biología sintética.

To integrate the needs of the society in our project, we visit the company Nikkos which produce mainly dairy products. There we learned about the industrial processes they carry out and the problems they face, the same ones that could be solved through synthetic biology.

Como parte de nuestro Human Practice, el equipo Chassei ha visitado distintos colegios para que los jóvenes estudiantes aprendan sobre la biología sintética y nuestro proyecto con Lactobacillus casei. Por ello, realizamos una visita al Colegio Humanístico Costarricense-Campus Omar Dengo, ubicado en Heredia, donde estudiaron dos miembros de nuestro equipo. El Sistema de Colegios Humanísticos se encuentra vinculado a la Universidad Nacional Costa Rica, UNA y busca desarrollar el talento y brindar una formación integral y holística para la comunidad aprendiente, utilizando un modelo pedagógico basado en el pensamiento complejo.

As part of our Human Practice, the Chassei team visited different high schools for young students to learn about synthetic biology and our project with Lactobacillus casei. For this reason, we made a visit to the Campus Omar Dengo Humanistic High School, located in Heredia, where two of our team members studied. The System of Humanistic Colleges is linked to the National University and seeks to develop talent and provide comprehensive and holistic training for the learning community, using a pedagogical model based on complex thinking.
